FAQs

Q?

Are you a military dependent?

A.

There has been a change in the military dental insurance plan for dependents.  For many years United Concordia was the insurance carrier for military dependents. In 2017 the insurance carrier changed to Metlife. Our office is one of the few dental offices in the area that accepts Metlife. Call us today to schedule an appointment.

Q?

What will happen on my first visit?

A.

If you come to our office in pain we will do our best to get you out of pain as soon as possible. After a visual inspection of the tooth/area, an X-ray will be taken. X-rays are the only way to see "into" the tooth and under the gums. Infection, decay and bone loss can be seen on X-rays. Once the source of the problem is determined, treatment recommendations are discussed. Depending on what treatment is needed, it may be done the same day. However when a large infection is present, a few days on an antibiotic is required before treatment can be done since the infection will diminish the numbing effect of anesthesia. A prescription for pain medication may be given. Depending on the treatment indicated, a referral to a specialist may be recommended.

Q?

Why do I need X-rays taken?

A.

X-rays aide us in the early detection of cavities, infection, and dental growth in children, teenagers, and young adults.  Our office follows the recommendations of the American Dental Association.

Q?

What if I have a dental emergency?

A.

Unfortunately, you cannot always anticipate when a dental emergency may occur. Should the need arise and you are a patient of record, please TEXT the Doctor-on-Call: 757.488.1285.  One of our friendly doctors will evaluate your problem and prescribe appropriate medication. We will appoint you to be seen in our office the next business day.

Q?

I haven’t seen a dentist in a really long time. What do I need to do?

A.

If you haven't seen a dentist in a really long time,  we would love to help get you back on track to oral health.  Your first appointment will depend on what is happening in your mouth. If you are in pain or have a specific concern, we will have you come in to see one of our doctors first. The dentist will examine your mouth and take necessary X-rays to determine the cause of the problem, formulate a treatment plan and treat the problem.  Otherwise, we schedule you with one of our dental hygienists. At that appointment, we perform a thorough oral examination and full series of X-rays. We note any areas of decay, discuss any concerns you have and improvements you'd like to see in your smile, and formulate a treatment plan.  The hygienist will also determine the health of your gums by measuring the pocket depth around your teeth and (if the gums are healthy and time permits) scale & polish your teeth.

Q?

What insurance do you accept?
